WISEST (WhIch Systematic Evidence Synthesis is besT)
AI-powered quality assessment of systematic reviews (2023-2025)
Overview
WISEST is an interdisciplinary initiative focused on developing AI tools to enhance the quality assessment of systematic reviews (2023-2025). I led the AI development stream, designing a cutting-edge Generative AI model capable of performing comprehensive analyses of systematic-review research papers while providing robust, transparent explanations of each decision.
Key Contributions
- Designed and implemented the end-to-end AI pipeline, from data ingestion and preprocessing to model deployment.
- Developed explainability modules to ensure the model’s recommendations remain interpretable and trustworthy for domain experts.
- Coordinated cross-functional efforts between clinical researchers, knowledge-translation experts, and software engineers.
Collaborators
- Knowledge Translation Program, Unity Health Network
- St. Michael’s Hospital
- University of British Columbia
- University of Toronto
Outputs
- WISEST Web Tool – public interface for automated quality appraisal of systematic reviews.
- WISEST Dataset Challenge – open benchmark dataset released to foster further research.
- WISEST Annotation Platform – custom interface used by domain experts to curate high-quality training data.
The WISEST platform is poised to accelerate evidence-based decision-making by bringing trustworthy, explainable AI to systematic-review quality appraisal.
